Comprehensive Vital Signs Monitoring with Patient Warming

Our New Flagship Model

VSM8 Vital Signs Monitor
13.5"X9.5"X6", 5 lbs, 10.4" screen
The VSM100 is developed for vital signs monitoring and patient warming in surgery and dentistry, ECG testing, and blood pressure (BP) measurements. The VSM100 features three work modes: multi-parameter monitoring mode, ECG mode (specifically for ECG testing), and BP mode (specifically for diagnostic BP measurements).
  • Capnography (mainstream or Micro-flow™ side stream)
  • Noninvasive Blood Pressure
  • ECG
  • Pulse Oximetry
  • Core-body Temperature
  • Adaptive Patient Warming

Integrate with your practice management system

The VSM100 saves monitoring records, ECG tracings, and BP readings on a USB flash drive for easy transfer of saved data to computers. The data are compatible with your existing practice management software (AVIMark, Cornerstone, DVM Manager, or any other practice management program).

I. Monitoring During Anesthesia

Monitoring ventilation with capnography

The VSM100 combines capnography and pulse oximetry in a portable unit. It offers a choice of mainstream capnography or micro-flow™ side-stream capnography. The mainstream capnography measures directly inside the airway, while the micro-flow™ side-stream capnography withdraws gas (50 ml/minute) from the airway into the monitor for measurement.

Both mainstream and side-stream capnography provide real-time CO2 waveforms (capnograms), end-tidal CO2 reading (ETCO2), respiratory rate (RR), with apnea alarm. To monitor ventilation with capnography, all you need to do is to insert the mainstream CO2 sensor (see the picture below) or an airway adapter (side-stream capnography) between the endotracheal tube and the breathing circuit.

Monitoring oxygenation with pulse oximetry

The VSM100 features an array of veterinary-specific SpO2 sensors. A lingual sensor and a tail/paw sensor come standard with the VSM100, while a leg/toe sensor and a rectal sensor are optional. The SpO2 tail/paw sensor, leg/toe sensor, and rectal sensor are designed specifically for use in dentistry.

Monitoring circulation with noninvasive blood pressure

The VSM100 features a breakthrough noninvasive BP technology developed specifically for use in cats, dogs, and other similar sized veterinary patients. Employing a cuff to occlude arterial flow and a pulse sensor band (see the picture below) to register arterial pulsations, this technology works in the same principle as the Doppler Method, but is much easier to use and totally automated. All you need to do is to wrap a cuff and the sensor band on a limb or the tail of the patient (see the drawing below). It is not necessary to locate a particular artery and clip the hair. This technology has been proven to be effective, accurate, and easy-to-use for cats and dogs of all sizes, anesthetized or conscious. It provides a systolic arterial pressure (SAP), a diastolic arterial pressure (DAP), and a mean arterial pressure (MAP), and a real-time pulse rate (PR).

The VSM100 comes with six cuffs of different sizes and one pulse sensor band which fits cats and dogs of all sizes.

Monitoring ECG and temperature

The VSM100 registers ECG, heart rate, and core-body temperature with an esophageal probe. It takes only seconds to insert the esophageal probe into the esophagus. Due to its proximity to the heart and ensured good contacts, the esophageal probe registers large and interference-free ECG even in your smallest patients. With no leads on the patient’s body, ECG monitoring has become much easier than ever before. VetSpecs® esophageal probes are available in three different sizes suitable for cats and dogs of all sizes, lizards, and ferrets.

If you do not want to use esophageal probes in dentistry, you can instead use the ECG leads (see the picture below) and a rectal temperature sensor.

Adaptive patient warming

The VSM100 features an integrated warming pad which is based on a state-of-the-art conductive carbon technology widely used in human neonatal field. The conductive carbon layer inside the pad generates uniform heat over the entire pad surface area. The pad is operated under a safe low voltage DC, and has a built-in thermal sensor, which will automatically cut off the power to the pad when the pad temperature reaches the factory set temperature of 102 ºF (39 ºC).

In surgery and dentistry, the VSM100 continuously monitors the patient’s temperature (core-body or rectal). When the patient’s temperature is below 100.5 ºF (38 ºC), the VSM100 automatically turns on the pad. When the patient’s temperature reaches 100.5 ºF (38 ºC), the VSM100 automatically turns off the pad. When the patient’s temperature is not being registered, the pad will keep warming the patient at the factory set temperature of 102 ºF (39 ºC).

Designed for vigorous use in the challenging veterinary field, the warming pad is durable, waterproof, flexible, and compact, with a sturdy outer cover which is removable and washable.

II. Diagnostic BP measurements

The VSM100 will automatically switch to the BP mode when you do BP measurements. With this state-of-the art BP technology, the VSM100 performs BP measurements in cats and dogs easily and quickly, with minimal intrusion to the patient. A BP measurement takes only 20 – 30 seconds. Multiple measurements can be done in just a few minutes. The VSM100 automatically saves BP readings registered in each measurement, along with the averaged readings for all these measurements, on the USB flash drive. You can review the data on your computer with the included VetSpecs® software, and save in your patient database under your practice management system.

III. ECG Testing

The VSM100 will automatically switch to the ECG mode when you do ECG testing, displaying cascaded four lines of ECG on one screen. Simply attach the three leads with flat clips (see the picture below) on the patient. The VSM100 automatically and continuously saves all registered ECG on the USB flash drive, which can be reviewed on your computer with the included VetSpecs® software. The ECG data can then be integrated into your patient database under your existing practice management software. You also can transfer the ECG data to any computers, email to anyone you want, and print in standard diagnostic format and quality through an office laser or ink-jet printer on regular plain papers.
