VetSpecs® SM100

Vital Signs Monitor

11.1 x 7.7 x 1.9 inches (282 x 195 x 48 mm), 2.6 lbs. (1.18 kg)

For comprehensive vital signs monitoring in surgery and dentistry, and ECG and blood pressure testing, the SM100 offers

  • ECG
  • Pulse Oximetry
  • Core or Rectal Temperatures
  • Noninvasive Blood Pressure
  • Capnography (choice of Bluetooth mainstream or micro-flow side-stream)

The SM100 is a user-configurable modular system featuring three digital modules: the main module containing ECG, pulse oximetry, and temperatures, the noninvasive blood pressure (NIBP) module, and the Bluetooth mainstream capnography module - VetSpecs® Capno-M, or micro-flow side-stream capnography module.

I. Vital Signs Monitoring

For monitoring in surgery or dentistry, the SM100 enters the multi-parameter monitoring mode, as shown above. It saves all registered waveforms, readings, and trend graphics on a USB flash drive. Take the flash drive to your computer and transfer the saved data, compatible with ALL practice management software systems. You can then review the data, and print out a monitoring report, as shown below, through any office laser or ink-jet printer.

1. Capnography

The SM100 offers the choice of a Bluetooth mainstream capnography module – VetSpecs® Capno-M, or a micro-flow™ side-stream capnography module, as shown below.

Both the mainstream and the side-stream capnography provide CO2 waveforms, an end-tidal CO2 (EtCO2) reading, a fractional inspired CO2 (FiCO2) reading, a respiratory rate (RR), and a respiratory sound, and work effectively in all cats, dogs, and other similar-sized animals.

The VetSpecs® Capno-M is designed to be used independently, in intubation, pre-op preparation, post-op anesthetic recovery, transport, and emergency care, or wirelessly connected to the SM100 for integrated multiparameter monitoring in surgery. For more information, please refer to the VetSpecs® Capno-M page.

While the Capno-M is not for use in dentistry, the side-stream capnography module is suitable for use in both surgery and dentistry. If you intend to use the SM100 in dentistry, it is recommended for you to get the side-stream module, or both the side-stream module and the Capno-M.

2. Pulse Oximetry

The SM100 offers two veterinary-specific SpO2 sensors, the lingual sensor and the leg/toe sensor. The leg/toe sensor is designed specifically for use in dentistry. Employing a high-power LED, the leg/toe sensor can work effectively even at sites covered with pigmented tissue and dense fur.

3. ECG and Temperature Monitoring

For monitoring in surgery, the SM100 registers ECG, heart rate, and core temperature with an esophageal probe. For monitoring in dentistry, the SM100 registers ECG, heart rate, and rectal temperature with a rectal probe.

After the patient is intubated, insert the probe into the esophagus. Due to its proximity to the heart and ensured good contacts, the probe registers large and clean ECG tracings even in the smallest kittens. With no ECG leads attaching on the patient’s body, ECG monitoring becomes much easier than ever before. The esophageal probes are available in three different sizes, suitable for cats and dogs of all sizes.

4. Blood Pressure Monitoring

The SM100 features a breakthrough technology for noninvasive blood pressure (NIBP) measurement - the volume plethysmography. This technology works in the same principle as the Doppler method, but is much easier to use, and provides systolic, diastolic, and mean arterial pressures, a real-time pulse rate, and pulse waveforms. The volume plethysmography has been proven to be effective and accurate in anesthetized and conscious cats or dogs of all sizes.

II. ECG Testing

ECG Testing Mode

The SM100 features an ECG testing mode, which displays cascaded four lines of ECG tracings on one screen, as shown above, and saves all registered ECG tracings on the USB flash drive. You can transfer the saved ECG to your computer, review them, and print out, as shown below, through any office laser or ink-jet printer. You can also save the ECG to your patient database under your existing practice management software system or send the ECG for consultation via email.

III. Blood Pressure Testing

Blood Pressure Testing Mode

The SM100 also features a blood pressure testing mode, which displays systolic, diastolic, and mean arterial pressure readings, a real-time pulse rate, pulse waveforms, and the averages of all measurements on one screen, as shown above, and saves all registered readings on the USB flash drive. You can review the data on your computer, print out a report, and save them in your patient database under your existing practice management software system.
