The Optional 5.6” Display Platform and the Main 10.5” Display Platform
The SM100 is a digital modular system with a main 10.5” display platform, an optional 5.6” display platform, and available four parameter modules to provide

- Airway-direct Respiration
- Wireless ICU Module (optional)
The main 10.5” display platform is for comprehensive vital signs monitoring in surgery or dentistry. It can also be used for ECG and blood pressure testing. The optional 5.6” display platform is for wireless monitoring of patients in anesthetic recovery or ICU, as well as for vital signs monitoring in dentistry and ECG and blood pressure testing. The digital modular design allows the user to configure the system, according to the monitoring or testing needs for the patient, simply by connecting the needed module(s) to the display platform which is more convenient to use at the point of care.
I. Monitoring in Surgery

For monitoring in surgery, connect the main module containing ECG, pulse oximetry, airway-direct respiration, and temperature, the noninvasive blood pressure (NIBP) module, and the capnography module, as shown below, to the main 10.5” display platform. The Monitor enters the multi-parameter monitoring mode, as shown in the pictures above.

The Monitor saves all registered waveforms, readings, and trend graphics on a USB flash drive. Take the flash drive to your computer and transfer the saved data, which is compatible with ALL practice management software systems. You can review the data, and print out a monitoring report, as shown below, through any office laser or ink-jet printer.
1. Monitoring Ventilation with Capnography
The SM100 offers three choices on capnography, the mini-cap™ mainstream capnography module, the micro-flow™ side-stream capnography module, and the Capno-M Bluetooth capnograph. All of them provide CO2 waveforms, an end-tidal CO2 (EtCO2) reading, a fractional inspired CO2 (FiCO2) reading, a respiratory rate (RR), and a respiratory sound. To apply capnography, simply insert the airway adapter between the endotracheal tube and the breathing circuit after the patient is intubated.
2. Monitoring Oxygenation with Pulse Oximetry
The SM100 offers two veterinary-specific SpO2 sensors, the lingual sensor and the leg/toe sensor. The leg/toe sensor is designed specifically for use in dentistry. Employing a high-power LED, the leg/toe sensor can work effectively even at sites covered with pigmented tissue and dense fur.

3. Monitoring Circulation with Noninvasive Blood Pressure
The SM100 features a breakthrough technology for noninvasive blood pressure (NIBP) measurement - the volume plethysmography. This technology works in the same principle as the Doppler method, but is much easier to use, and provides systolic, diastolic, and mean arterial pressures, a real-time pulse rate, and pulse waveforms. The volume plethysmography has been proven to be effective and accurate in cats and dogs of all sizes, anesthetized or conscious. The blood pressure technology comes with a NIBP module, as shown above, a pulse sensor band, and a set of six cuffs.
4. Monitoring ECG and Core Temperature with Esophageal Probe
For monitoring in surgery, the SM100 registers ECG, heart rate, and core temperature with an esophageal probe. After the patient is intubated, insert the probe into the esophagus. Due to its proximity to the heart and ensured good contacts, the probe registers large and clean ECG tracings even in the smallest kittens. With no ECG leads attaching on the patient’s body, ECG monitoring becomes much easier than ever before. The esophageal probes are available in three different sizes, suitable for cats and dogs of all sizes.
II. Monitoring in Dentistry

While both display platforms can be used for monitoring in dentistry, the smaller 5.6” display platform, which may be hung on the wall or anesthesia machine, is easier to set up in dentistry. The Monitor provides ECG, rectal temperature, pulse oximetry, and airway-direct respiration or capnography, as shown above. For monitoring in dentistry, the Monitor registers ECG with the flat-clip leads.

III. Blood Pressure Testing

Both display platforms can be used for blood pressure testing. In blood pressure testing mode, the Monitor displays systolic, diastolic, and mean arterial pressure readings, a real-time pulse rate, pulse waveforms, and the averages of all measurements, as shown above, and saves all registered readings on the USB flash drive. You can review the data on your computer, print out a report, as shown below, and save them in your patient database under your existing practice management software system.
IV. ECG Testing
ECG Testing Mode
Both display platforms can be used for ECG testing. In ECG testing mode, the Monitor displays cascaded three lines of ECG tracings on one screen, as shown above, and saves all registered ECG tracings on the USB flash drive. You can then transfer the saved ECG to your computers, review them, and print out through any office laser or ink-jet printer. See the printout sample below. You can also save the ECG to your patient database under your existing practice management software system or send the ECG for consultation via email.
V. Wireless ICU Module (optional)
ICU Monitoring Mode
Both display platforms are compatible with the optional wireless ICU module. The above picture shows the Monitor in ICU monitoring mode. Developed specifically for wireless monitoring of patients in anesthetic recovery, intensive care, or critical care, the wireless ICU module provides

The wireless ICU module comes with a pulse sensor band, a respiratory sensor, and a rectal temperature sensor, as shown below. To monitor the pulse, respiration, and temperature of a patient located up to 60 feet (18 meters) away, simply wrap the pulse sensor band on a leg of the patient, and secure the wireless module on the same leg with self-adherent elastic gauze, place the respiratory sensor to the patient’s abdomen and secure it with self-adherent elastic gauze, and apply the rectal temperature sensor, all with no need to clip the hair.
