I. Vital Signs Monitoring

Multi-parameter Monitoring Mode

For monitoring in surgery or dentistry, the SM100 enters the multi-parameter monitoring mode, as shown above. It saves all registered waveforms, readings and trend graphics on a USB flash drive. Take the flash drive to your computer and transfer the saved data, which is compatible with ALL practice management software systems. You can then review the data and print out a monitoring report, as shown below, through any office printer.

1. Bluetooth Capnography

Featuring Bluetooth side-stream capnography (VetSpecs® Capno-5) and Bluetooth mainstream capnography (VetSpecs® Capno-M), shown below, the SM100 offers effective and easy-to-use capnography monitoring in a variety of procedures. While both the Capno-5 and the Capno-M are designed for independent use, they can be wirelessly connected to the SM100 via Bluetooth for integrated multiparameter monitoring. With either the Capno-5 or the Capno-M, the SM100 provides

  • CO2 Waveforms
  • End-tidal CO2 (EtCO2)
  • Fractional Inspired CO2 (FiCO2)
  • Respiratory Rate
  • Respiratory Sounds

If you want an ultra-portable capnography monitor for use in intubation, sedation, preoperative preparation, anesthetic recovery, emergency and critical care, as well as in surgery with the SM100, you may prefer to have the Capno-M. If you need a capnography monitor suitable for use in dentistry, as well as in surgery and other procedures, purchase the Capno-5 and use it with the SM100.

2. Pulse Oximetry

The SM100 offers two veterinary-specific SpO2 sensors, the lingual sensor and the leg sensor. The leg sensor is designed specifically for use in dentistry. Employing a high-power light source, the leg sensor can work effectively even at sites covered with pigmented tissue and dense fur.

3. ECG and Esophageal Probes

For monitoring in surgery, the SM100 registers ECG, heart rate, and core temperature with an esophageal probe. After the patient is intubated, insert the probe into the esophagus. Due to its proximity to the heart and ensured good contacts, the probe registers large and clean ECG tracings even in the smallest kittens. With no ECG leads attached to the patient’s body, ECG monitoring becomes easier than ever before. The esophageal probes are available in three different sizes, suitable for cats and dogs of all weight ranges.

4. Blood Pressure

The SM100 features the VetSpecs® patented noninvasive blood pressure (NIBP) technology – the volume plethysmography. This breakthrough method, which employs a cuff to occlude arterial flow and a pulse sensor band to register arterial pulsations, has been proven to be easy-to-use, accurate, and effective in all cats, dogs and other similar-sized animals. All you need to do is to wrap the cuff and the sensor band on a leg or tail of the patient.

II. ECG Testing

ECG Testing Mode

ECG Limb Plates

The SM100 features an ECG testing mode and our patented ECG limb plates (above), developed specifically for ECG monitoring in dentistry as well as ECG testing in veterinary patients. In the ECG testing mode, the SM100 displays four cascaded lines of ECG tracings on one screen, as shown above, and saves all registered ECG tracings on the USB flash drive. You may review the saved ECG tracings on your computer, print through any office printer, and save to your patient database under your existing practice management software system.

III. Blood Pressure Testing

Blood Pressure Testing Mode

The SM100 also offers a blood pressure testing mode, which displays a real-time pulse rate, pulse waveforms, and systolic, diastolic and mean arterial pressure readings, plus the average reading of all measurements (shown above), and saves all registered readings on the USB flash drive. You may review the data on your computer, print out a report through any office printer, and save it in your patient database under your existing practice management software system.

IV. Wireless Monitoring (optional)

Wireless Monitoring Mode

The SM100 offers an optional wireless module, developed specifically for vital signs monitoring of patients in anesthetic recovery, pain management, and intensive or critical care, up to 60 feet (18 meters) away. When connected to the wireless module via Bluetooth, the SM100 enters the wireless monitoring mode, as shown above, and provides

  • ECG
  • Respiratory Waveforms
  • Heart Rate
  • Respiratory Rate
  • Temperature
  • Heartbeat Beep Sounds
  • Respiratory Sounds

V. Upgradeable for Anesthetic Gas Monitoring (available in September of 2021)

You may upgrade the SM100 to monitor isoflurane, sevoflurane, or desflurane, manually selected by the user, in addition to the carbon dioxide and respiratory rate, with the purchase of the side-stream capnography and anesthetic gas module (shown below). The SM100 will then provide

  • CO2 Waveforms
  • End-tidal CO2 (EtCO2)
  • Fractional Inspired CO2 (FiCO2)
  • Respiratory Rate (RR)
  • Respiratory Sounds
  • Isoflurane, Sevoflurane, or Desflurane Waveforms
  • Inhaled Isoflurane, Sevoflurane, or Desflurane Concentration
  • Exhaled Isoflurane, Sevoflurane, or Desflurane Concentration
